Therefore, please do not use imagebam, or any host, that provides live playing gifs in those specific threads. If you see your gif playing once you post, try to use a smaller thumbnail and if that does not work use a different approved host.

Just for your information .. filesonic has given uploaders the ability to change the free user limit from 400mb to 1GB.

    News
    ---------------------

    Dear Valued Partners,

We?re pleased to announce one of the biggest changes since FileSonic?s launch!

There was an ongoing debate amongst online communities about whether we should allow free users to download files up to 1GB, or keep it at 400MB. We?ve listened to your feedback closely, and conducted analysis on our end to find the best set up to benefit all of our affiliates.

We have decided to give you, our partners, the ability to choose if you want to keep a limit of 400MB for free users, or raise that limit to 1GB. Simply go to your ?Settings? page to increase the maximum allowable file size for free users. With this new feature, you will be able to share your large files with your family and friends without having to split them ? if you chose to. We trust that this will make the FileSonic experience much a much better for one for all!

So it's up to the uploaders/posters?

Is there a way to know, for certain, that any file size larger then 400MB is indeed available to free users?

It is my opinion, that if can't be readily determined whether a free user can d/l the larger file, then the limit here at Phun will stay at 400MB regardless of the option.

My guess is, once a non-premium user clicks on a 400MB+ FS link, they'll probably know right away they can download it as a free user or not.

The current Rapidshare has a similar option for user to "direct download" files - never tried it out myself cuz it also depends on how much "allowed traffic" a Rapidshare account holder dedicates to "direct downloads". Sounds like FS is doing the same thing, tho don't know if there's a cap or not.

My concern is for us Mods. I am not clicking on every link larger then 400MB to see if it's available to a free user.

but it can be made as a rule that if a poster posts a file larger than 400 mb in single filesonic link then he must designate it as a free link or if it is a premium then premium link like

    http://www.filesonic.com/file/12345678/xxx.rar (Free Link)

and if it is not a free link then post it as usual

A user can set his own file size limit for free user either he choose 400MB or 1 GB. If an user choose 1 GB file size limit for free user then a downloader (free) can download upto 1GB file. I set mine 1 GB and here is a link which is 905 MB you can check this.

we all know this but the debate is as perfect4ths says its very hard for mods then to check up each filesonic link which is greater then 400 mb is free or not and some spammers will surely make abuse of this opportunity anyways its up to the mods to device some method.

A rule may be mod like

If any user posted between 400MB to 1024MB link and this link is not available for free user i.e. free user not able to download and some one reported the link then the poster who post the link banned and all thread and post made by this user removed.

By this way no user do any thing wrong.

i don't think file size limit could be a big problem .... if the users can't download it, they will feedback or report the thread. happened to me last week
reposts are a different issue, most downloaders don't report, uploaders do.

Maybe if a poster/uploader makes it clear that his/her FileSonic link(s) in any thread (or mega thread) contains 400MB or larger links that is download-able by free users that would be great and, in my opinion, could be a good exception for the 400MB limit. :)

Good idea, but there will always be some smart guy abusing of such system, of course, users wil report and he could be banned, but thats just more work for mods.
The only way to be sure without clicking onl ink is the 400mb limit.

Mods already have plenty to do in this board where people are really abusing more and more, lot of repost, most megathreads are just to disguise repost abuse, videos arent titled properly etc...
