I love the name "hobo spider".

But how can they be sure?

 

I had never heard of it before:

The hobo spider (Tegenaria agrestis) is a member of the genus of spiders known colloquially as funnel web spiders, but not to be confused with the potentially deadly Australian funnel-web spider. It is one of a small number of spiders in North America whose bites are generally considered to be medically significant. Individuals construct a funnel-shaped structure of silk sheeting and lie in wait at the small end of the funnel for prey insects to blunder onto their webs. Hobo spiders sometimes build their webs in or around human habitations. Although this species of spider has a reputation for aggressiveness, they will normally avoid contact with humans. Most bites occur when the spider is accidentally crushed or squeezed by a human. The spider's venom is strong enough to cause considerable local pain and possibly necrosis.

 

Probably by the way the bite looks...they can tell the difference between the deadlier brown recluse and the black widow.

I hate spiders tho

 

After watching that movie I killed every spider I saw...just in case

 

I'm not a big fan of bugs in general. When I was a kid, I had an uncle that collected bugs

 

My cats hunt and kill (and eat) every spider that finds its way in to my apartment.

 

Well thats a good thing I guess mine keep bringing in cicadas and keep me awake whist they "play" with them

 

Not all of them....a study was done that said that the average person eats 8 spiders (while they are sleeping) over the course of their life time (the spiders crawl into your mouth).

 

I had to do that as part of my Horticulture Cerificate ..pinning them out was a pain :2cent:
