I don't know if you get it where you are but there was a program called Supersizers go on SBS...the local foreign languge TV station that had English cuisine through the ages and some from the Victorian era food was just a heart attack waiting to happen and included enough alcohol to put most people into a coma and that was just for breakfast :2cent:

The Victorian era was the strangest...one of the meals consisted of a boiled Calf's head complete with eyeballs and the calories were for one meal which you and I wouldn't even consume in a week. How my ancestors survived is beyond me :2cent:

well we were originally talking about breathing polluted air and whether we could breathe pure air since we have adapted to polluted air.... but then I was atching a show called supersizers Go made by the BBC which shows what people ate and drank in times gone by and some of it was downright scary

I have a US cookbook from the 1950's which has meals that would have 10 times the daily recomended calorie intake but they sure are

 

Ah, the good old 50's when smoking wasn't bad for your health yet...

 

And they smoked like chomneys too
