6k: Pictures, Stars, and Dreams

A story I've heard on more than one occasion that is in keeping with some of these photos. Let's see if I can remember it correctly.

Shortly after Monroe and Arthur Miller announced their engagement he took her to his mother's rather modest apartment in Brooklyn. They are all sitting in the kitchen talking amiably when Marilyn asks to be excused to go to the bathroom. Not atypical of apartments in those days, the bathroom was directly off the kitchen area. Monroe closes the door and, horrified, thinks of the few feet separating her from the others. Before she does anything else she goes to the sink and opens both the hot and cold water taps fully. She then proceeds, finishes and shuts both faucets off before opening the door and coming back out into the kitchen.

The remainder of their visit goes wonderfully and after a while longer they bid his mother goodbye. The next day Miller nervously calls his mother for her opinion. "Oh Arthur, " she says. "She's beautiful, what a marvelous woman. But my God, she pisses like a race horse!"
