I'm not gonna pretend to know the inner workings of Islam. But I don't think Islam as a whole would go all nutty over seeing Mohammed in a cartoon.

It's just that small group of folks that are just clinically insane and take everything in their religion way too literal that make those kind of threats

 

Agreed... so maybe it's just the US media "spotlighting the evil insane followers of Islam" once again. :|

On the other hand, there are radical Christians, vehement guardians of homosexuality, and so on... there are extreme corners of every group that South Park has made fun of - why have none of them every threatened some type of crazy action against the South Park creators?

(to be fair, I do believe the Church of Scientology threatened to sue South Park but not sure if that ever got anywhere).

 

everything you hear today is about tolerance. How we have to tolerate everybody, everything, every viewpoint, right to till it hits islam. Then it's hands off- REDALERT- Dont you DARE!

WTF? Arent these the same people that declared a holy war on the American infidels? did I get confused somewhere? Isnt this the same religion that applauded when their adherents beheaded an American with a butcher knife live on video a few years ago? Isnt this the same religion that condemns tolerance for any other belief?

It's not that I'm presenting conspiracy theories or something, I'm just a bit mystified how one of the world's LEAST tolerant religions is gaining ground in a society BASED on tolerance!

 

I think the insane Islamic sects get special treatment cause they are insane.

They actually go out and kill people. And I think most people don't want to give them a reason to have their crazy followers come and butcher them to death

 

Of course that's true. Who wants to have maniacs coming after them with butcher knives? My question is, how can this sort of religion be flourishing in a society that promotes "tolerance" as it's greatest freedom?

That whole Middle East part of the world is so fucked up. All these different religious groups fighting and killing each other for centuries cause they perform their religion in a different way. It's absolutely crazy. At this point I think they're just killing each other cause that's all they know.

I'm not a religious person by any means. I can see though how it can be a comfort for some and be an inspiration for others, etc.

And then the whole of the Middle East shows the ugly side of religion and shows just how dangerous it can be.

Thus, three days ago, Muslim anger was intense enough for the major Shiite cleric to issue this most unbelievable pronouncement. With crackdowns on intolerance everywhere in our culture every day, why do the clerics of this religion receive special hands off treatment?
Wouldnt you think the women's groups would be on the warpath over the common pervasive shit treatment of women in the religion?
