cy, how long will a gig like the one you're finishing today last you financially? Or is it above and beyond your regular gig?

 

Oh, this one pays about $1800 for 2.5-3 days plus 30 days of fixes and updates. Not alot, but not bad either.

 

I thought you had a regular day thing with the schools.

 

Not any more. Contract was cancelled after 8 years just before Christmas. that's why Im on phun almost all the time now.

Yeah, hasnt been too bad. Worst part is the market sucks. Eh, Ive been thinking about moving someplace interesting. Im bored, and I dont think this economy is going to get better in the next 7-8 years. Regardless of what the news says, this has all the earmarks of the depression of the 1930's.

 

IBM has a facility in Chile that i've applied for. We'll see how it goes.

 

Do you have people feeding you freelance gigs (aside from the one you just finished)?

 

Im in the middle of this one. I use a couple services to get short term stuff. I was running a side business doing wireless networks for small trucking companies and independents, but trucking has been so bad for so long now, all the money is gone for frills like that.

Walmart is starting layoffs at distros I guess and Sams club already laid off 13k. That's getting pretty bad.

 

Today's Republicans may get what they want. People are going to have to become more entrepreneurial. But there will be no middle class to do business with. The entrepreneurs are going to have to prey off the rich.

 

Eh, the parties are pretty much meaningless anymore. Each side feeds off the other.

 

Sam's Club laid off people who did product demos. The forecast for the Wal-Marts and Targets is OK so far.

 

The "mental" side of a bad economy can be worse than the actual physical parts. If government involvement helps people keep going, that may stave off a bad depression.
