Dude, as soon as I've found the readies, I'm coming back. Winter, mostly 'cos it's cheaper. But there's nothing quite like QTown under two feet of snow.

Also, I want to get a ticket with Singapore Airlines, purely so I can 1) transit through Singapore, which is the best place to do the dogleg (compared to Bangkok or KL) and 2) Singapore Airlines are flying the Airbus A380, and I want to fly in that puppy.

 

Trust me, if I was doing it there would be plenty of face-planting happening!

Any time of year is good to visit, but I'm most likely to be in NZ in winter, as that is the only down-time we get with the big dairy companies to do maintenance & new installations.

You spent any time in the North Island?
Different again, but still the common theme I guess, bush & mountains, lakes & rivers, oceans, islands etc.

Whitianga for a Christmas and New Year. And I did most of my work in Auckland, and up in the Bay of Plenty. Taupo was a good place, and I quite liked Napier, even if it's not pure tourist.

But the South is the main attraction, what with it's one big road going all the way around.

 

You've seen those mountains!
You tell me that its realistic to put more roads through the middle of them!

It's a rugged place, & with only 4 million people to pay for it, the infrastructure is always going to have some significant limits.

& why spoil it with too many roads anyway!

I do love this place (NZ) & every time I travel away for work I'm reminded how lucky I am to live here.

yeah that's with the wind chill. I forgot to plug in my truck but I just had her serviced. but still, She barely started. going to let her warm up for 30 minutes.

when I plug it in it has a battery blanket, oil pan heater and a block heater that keeps her warm.

 

Same here. Sure, we've got some problems and our systems don't work perfectly, but we're a hell of a let better off than some people. And that includes the Americans. Here, and in most civilised countries, if you're low income/poor, it's tough, but not impossible. There, if you're poor, you're fucked.
