    Video quality is important, but, past a given point, the quality and dimensions of the video don't matter.

    With most commercially produced videos, I use a program called Soft to cut out half the frames. I would rather have twice the action than half the length. For the amount of time and the size of gifs, no one can tell the difference.

    I use Virtualdub and Avidemux 2.4 GTK+ to crop and resize scenes before I load them into ULead.

    I also use Ulead GIF Animator 5. I use ImTOO Video Editor to cut clips that are just too big.

    in my experience, capturing frames from a hd vid sometimes reduces the quality,
    because the capture device is'nt fast enough, so i would convert a hd vid to wmv and use kmplayer to extract.
