Just warning any Aussie members out there that the ISP "Unwired" blocks forum.phun.org

I'm not sure if it is a part of K-Rudd's internet censorship crap or just Unwired being assholes, either way, steer clear.

Yeah, they were my ISP up until today, they started blocking it about a month or two ago. The URL is:

    http://www.unwired.com.au/

Shit, I hope this is not the start of something that would flow across all aussie isp's...that would be really great (NOT).

Well, it could be part of the government's censorship trials, I've read that Unwired is participating, though in the trial stage, they are meant to get your permission before they filter your conection.

I did ask them if they filtered content about a month ago, but they never got back to me and I never followed it up as I knew that I was going back to TPG once I moved house again.

We'll see what they say to wtfazzhole.

They don't happen to have a list of the blocked urls?

That really sucks, the only good thing I can see there is the fact that we're famous enough to get blocked, but I guess that doesn't help the people who can't access this forum :<

Stuff like that makes me mad, I mean you pay money to get internet access and you're old enough to take a look at naked girls, so who the hell does your provider thinks he is, that he can forbid you to do what you like.

Well as long as my host doesn't do it, or I'll go down kicking and screaming.

    But this really does suck.

Better look ahead fellas, Britain is looking to filter based on binary usage and US broadband companies are trying their once a decade by-the-bit usage policies. Once they ram thru the new dmca rewrites all your web freedoms will be stuck in a noose.

The scary thing about this is a lack of competition with high speed ISP's. In some areas the Southeast US for example. It's Comcast or nothing so if they do something idiotic like this you can't say fuck em I'll swith providers. Unless you wnat to hook up the old horse and buggy called dial-up there is no other provider to switch to. The way to fight this is to scream like hell at the first mention of your ISP even considering any filtering. There is filtering available for those who want it but it should not be shoved down the throat of those who don't. Just my 2 cents worth ;)

I'm glad i'm with iinet then. They are outspoken against internet filtering, and they're about to do battle with the hollywood studios in court about allowing piracy on their network.

This was the list of sites to be blocked, however, the most recent update is August 6th 2008:

    http://www.wikileaks.com/wiki/Austr...ensorship_blacklist,_6_Aug_2008#March_19_2009

The list no doubt contains to pretty immoral and tasteless stuff, but having a quick look at it, searching for phun.org (it's not on there), I found things like redtube and a heap of online poker sites, that I can think of no reason for them being blocked. Then again, the Australian Communications and Media Authority who handle censorship have been known to be very quick to can things.

Cave you sure it was you ISP blocking phun and not the other way round, My IP address is apparently blocked by phun, i've had to use webproxies to get onto the site for the last few months, and i'm pretty sure Spin/Comcen aren't taking part in the webfilter trial

yeah, it's possible that your IP is banned. We had to ban a few dozen IPs in order to stop some spammers...

I suppose it is possible that my IP was blocked, the only way I could get on to phun was via a proxy.

I could get on to phun.org, but not forum.phun.org.

I really don't know how I could've been classed as a spammer though.

I have no issues getting onto phun with my current ISP. It was my old ISP that I was having trouble with and since I'm no longer with them, I don't think that I can find out what my IP was.
