I am impressed! My oldest son was a bright kid and athletic. I believe I have a pic of him, I will try to find and post here. He was playing varsity soccer as an eighth-grader.

My youngest son, well, I don't believe a Dad could ask for a more wonderful son. He is really a nice person, smart as hell, and a great athlete. Both sons were Eagle scouts. The youngest was named the area scholar-athlete of the year during his HS senior year, played college basketball at Emory University in Atlanta, and will start med school this coming August.

I am really not bragging as I can take little credit for his accomplishment. I do take some credit for him being a tolerant, kind, polite, etc. person. That was my main goal with both boys. I really did not want to be responsible for creating more ass-holes in this world.

I don't watch much TV and don't go to movies, but I happened to have the TV on last night. That was a mistake. I was watching a medical show mainly about an emergency room. don't know the name of the program. It had an elderly man lose his wife - really made me think of my Dad. He was miserable after my mom died and he passed away 5 months later. Watching that damn program just depressed the living shit out of me.

IMHO - raising children is the most demanding and toughest thing one can undertake. Over protection is a real challenge. You cannot shield them from everything or they will be totally unprepared for life. I used to say you must allow them to get hurt, but try to protect them from injury. I could write a book on this, but I don't want to be banned! LOL

Thanks, PM. I guess in these time I am extremely fortunate to have parents that stayed together for almost 60 years. They have been gone now about ten years, but I will never lose my gratefulness to them for the self-respect, respect for others, and one hell of a work ethic. They lived as young adults in the great depression, so they appreciated their jobs and treated their employers with great respect and appreciation, worked that back sides off, did not believe in credit, etc.

I only hope my sons appreciate me half as much as I do my parents...

I suspect he will go into some form of sports medicine. The kid is chiseled like a Greek god.

 

One of the only dirty one-liners I ever heard from my dad happened on the golf course. It was just the 2 of us, and a 3rd guy joined us. My dad asked, "What do you do?" He said, "I'm a gynecologist." With a straight face, my dad said, "That's one way to look at it."
