Input on the whole new "gore" problem...

One specific thread would do for me, then I just wouldn't click on it!

 

Having any place on Phun for that kind of stuff just goes above my head, I don't get it.

Celebrities, Models, arse, legs, boobs, sig and having a laugh. End of.

You don't go to a VW beetle website and start posting pics of grizzly bears, do you? Its not like the internet is a tiny place where people can't get that stuff if they want it, is it?

Just go elsewhere. Why is there a need for us to have to put up with it?

Personally I don’t go into the creepshow thread anymore. But when I heard pictures of dead people from crime scenes were being posted it really turned my stomach. I’m not squeamish, that wasn’t the reason. I know the chance is astronomical but what if you were a Phun Member who lost a family member and you were just surfing around Phun and you saw your Family member posted on a random site.

I come to Phun to chill out, joke around with Buds and have a great time. As many others before me have said, if you want to see pictures like that there are a hell of a lot of other sites they can find that crap. I find too many sites try to hide behind the Freedom of Speech.

Still, it’s your board cayne. I do appreciate the chance to give input.

 

The problem I see with this poll is there are 2 options to view the content on here and only 1 against. So technically you are splitting the votes for those who do want to see it here either on a protected sub-forum or in just 1 or two tagged threads.

if the poll results are as current then 12 people are for it (5 votes for specific thread, and 7 votes for specific forum) and 6 votes for not allowed.

the poll should be should it be allowed or not then it would be a yes or no and then if yes you can ask how it should be done. otherwise it isn't a true representation of the votes.

I say put it in a censor free zone and password it to protect it from the eyes of the innocent so they can't complain about it.

 

i think brothergrims made an important point in a similar thread that referenced the jade goody thread:

phun is like a bar, with cayne as the owner, and azz (along with the other mods) as bar managers.

so is it acceptable behavior if i walk into this bar and yell the word "chocolate" at the top of my lungs every 5 seconds? the answer is no, and if i did, i'm sure someone would tell me to shut up or leave. but does that mean all topics about chocolate are censored? no it doesn't.

if i walk into the bar with my hunting buddys and we talk about hunting and share some hunting pics with each other, is that ok? sure it is. but if i wave pics of bloody animals i shot and skinned under the noses of everyone eating at the next booth is that ok? i hope not. does it mean the topic of hunting is censored from the bar? no, it just means that certain types of behavior intended solely to incite anger and arguments (like the jade goody thread) should not be allowed.

there are always going to be certain people that want to see gore pics. so it's really up to the owner to determine if he wants to cater to that customer base. you have to decide as an owner if you want to have a room in the back of your bar with the word "gore" on it where people who like that stuff can go. sure, you can keep it locked and hand out keys only to people who request it, but if you know that the mere presence of that room is still going to disgust 99% of your customers then i really think you have to ask yourself as the owner of the bar if that's the kind of reputation you want as a bar owner.

i voted to keep gore pics completely out of the bar i frequent called phun, because i don't even want to look at the disgusting people who enjoy that type of shit as they're walking past my barstool to get to the gore room.

 

I voted #2 for "freedom of speech/expression" reasons. However, as many have said, there are other places to find such material.

This site has more stringent rules than others when it comes to reposts, content, etc., and I like that. Personally, I have very little use for most disgusting pics (unless they are in Demotivator form, and don't include dead people).

Glad I'm not a mod, because I'd be trying to make rules that allowed some, but not all, and I don't see an easy way to do that.

As far as the gory pics, I like watching HBO's forensic files tv program called "dead man don't tell lies" and in there it shows unedited crime scene pics or pics from accidents. It is on late at night so the kids can't "shouldn't" be watching it so does that make me a sick person? I enjoy watching how using forensics they can solve a crime either by looking at decomposition how long the body has been out in the elements or crime scene reconstruction as to how the crime was committed. Gore doesn't always have to be something that enrages people, it can also be used to show things of value. To that I say why censor it? the only censorship needed is to keep the passwords away from those who can't handle it. This like many of the other subjects on this board is adult related(ie. it is for adults). If some of you can't handle it then why try to impose your will upon others?

 

i think this is sorted by adding the two ya's together to get a total of that opinion and to be weighed against the single nea vote, so there is that twist but real vote. it should work ok.

It appears that the options are also to the worry of starting another forum, some places get sub-forum-ed to death, but in this case, your accepting a new forum is also agreed to. this will allow members that want to enjoy this form of stuff to do it without effecting other members lunch.

I am a hunter, i have slaughtered animals, i have witnessed a man dressing a moose with a chainsaw. This does not make me queasy, but I also have a history in destroyed human bodies, and that, if I can, I would like to avoid for the rest of my life.
So again, i got a fence in my crotch.

 

azz, would you watch that same show if it was nothing more than a slide show of gore pics with no commentary?

I can understand the fact that some people may find gore etc interesting, it's a personal preference thing. Just as Azz said above he likes to watch forensics etc etc. The only one thing i am slightly worried about is Phun becoming infamous. Maybe it's an over-exaggeration but we all know gore sites that became so popular they were eventually taken down.

Also most of these sites with gore threads etc always seem to have a rape/bestiality or some other fucked up section, I understand not all people post shit like that. But why even give them the chance to? As far as i am concerned Phun is a place for a relaxing discussion gawping at naked bodies and having a laugh in general.

 

I would like to think that if it is not an illegal image that i have the freedom to do so if i choose.


as far as some of the other comments about "gore" does this apply to just human gore or gore including animals? So now all pictures of dead humans and animals even if the animal was taken cleanly in a hunt to gory as well?

 

KI rape and beastiality is illegal here. that is the reason why it is not allowed, ever. What we are talking about is perfectly legal content.

 

If I were to go hunting and bag an 8 point white tail i'd pm you and Inuk the pics of it cause I know you two would like to see them - not post them cause I know Jamms for one would be offened. I personally don't think there is a grey line with all this. Just sayin.

 

rape and beastiality are againt the rules. but at the time being, gore is not. the creepshows first few pages were great because it was scary and freaky pics. but as it grew more violent and explicit pics were posted. i think having a seperate subforum is the best way to deal with it. it doesn't have to become infamous, and it doesn't have to have a title that makes people think WTF?? but as long as it's descriptive enough to let people know what they are gonna see.
if it was used for hunting stuff, and things of the like then i would go in and have a look. but if it is soley for dead people and car crashes then i won't go in.

to me, pics of dead bloody animals are gorey no matter how they were killed. and that's not a statement for or against hunting.

you can pm those pics to all the people you want (i.e. share them with all your hunting buddys at your bar table), but if you start posting them in a thread (i.e waving them around my bar table while i'm eating), then i'll complain to the bar manager and if he condones it, i'll find another bar.

 

So when it was still cool to post pics of my hunting trip last year i had people who I didn't know would enjoy them commented that the pics look cool i can't share them now because 1 or 2 individuals would be offended? I honestly think people who are all supposed adults on here should know self control and that is don't click on things you don't like. I don't enjoy seeing candid celeb pics so i don't click on them. it is called personal freedom to do "legal" things.

I wouldn't know until the situation presents itself to me. of the 250,000+ members I am suppose to know who might want to see my hunting pics? Or the hundreds of people i interact with on here I am now suppose to know who might enjoy them and who wouldn't to pass them along?

 

You point is very valid and I agree with you to a point. Seeing bagged animals doesn't bother me in the least but dead people do. So where do you draw the line? You simply don't. Create a thread saying "I had a ball on my hunting trip again this year, who would like to see the pics?" Then pm them.

 

but why do we have to resort to such underground antics to share our pics? isn't that exactly what cayne gave as an option to have a seperate section for those who wants to see them can go in and do so? This is like trying to trade porn in middle school and you have to pass it without getting caught by the teacher. It kinda defeats the purpose of having a forum where people can just share openly.
