Africa is messed up, yeah - so many rich countries where the money is all funneled into a few families while the rest of the people live in the dirt. Having been there many, many times, I now refuse to give to any charity associated with Africa, because I know damned well what happens to the donations: Goodwill clothes and donated food are sold in markets, and cash.....I'm only guessing, but it probably funds trips to Europe for the rich.

It's a sad, sad continent.

I just wish Western liberals would stop automatically blaming us, the former colonial powers, for ALL the fucking mess. I shudder to think what places like Ghana, Angola, the DRC...(I could go on and on) would be like if they never had any colonial rule/influences.

So many of those places - particularly West African countries - have massive offshore oil reserves. They have every chance to improve the state of things, but, even with OPEC's proddings, they STILL have no systems set of for self-sustaining employment. The skilled trade workers are all brought in from the Phillipenes, and the engineers/scientists are all brought in from North America & Eurpope. And, of course, there's no wealth distribution at all.....the leaders needs their villas in Portugal equipped with the latest Ferarris.

Bash The French if you will - it's easy enough to do - but they are masters at keeping their hands in the cookie jars of so many countries. In Africa, people actually seem to be impressed by people with massive egos, so French (and Texans) fit right in. It's funny to watch if you can remain detached.
