Did you watch the original series?

 

I've seen a few of the original series, much better than the couple of american ones I've watched.

 

The original series is an absolute masterpiece, whereas the American one didn't quite capture the vibe of the original properly.

I've yet to find a fan of the original who likes the American version.

 

I love both, mainly because the American version _doesn't_ try to mimic the vibe of the original; it's got its own cast, and their style is a bit different.

The absolute worst episodes of the American version are the first few where they were using British scripts, and the cast just doesn't play those as well as the Brits did. But since it has evolved into its own show, it's very good.

I understand what you're saying, and no doubt it's success in America is down to the "Americanising" of the scripts, but to me an "Office" remake without the original vibe just doesn't work.

I've never been a fan of remakes/adaptions though.

 

It's one of those shows where people either adore it, or just can't understand it.

If you get the vibe of the show, it's a true masterpiece.

 

I'll probably end up renting the dvds soon since there ain't much other shit out that I haven't seen.

 

How can All Along the Watchtower be a Jimi Hendrix song when it's a remake of a Bob Dylan song?

Remakes can suck or they can be amazing--e.g. Jimi's cover, or the Brian De Palma "Scarface" starring Al Pacino (which is far superior to the original).

And sometimes they're just different. Ocean's 11 with Brad Pitt et al is a better _movie_ than the original (neither is genius), but the original is also fun to see if you like the rat pack running around being themselves. Likewise the Thomas Crown Affair; I prefer the remake (with Pierce Brosnan) but the original has its appeal too.

Now I'm a little leery of remakes up front because they're often a cheap money grab (Gus Van Sandt's shot-for-shot Psycho, or the Shining miniseries), but there are certainly some good ones. And some (e.g. Scorsese's Cape Fear) that are interesting experiments even if they're ultimately not great.

 

The genius of the British version is how uncomfortable it is.

 

I heard the same about Extras, another show I plan on seeing eventually.

 

The more I think about it, the more I sort of analogize them with sequels. Lots of sequels are terrible (Weekend at Bernie's II, I'm looking in your direction). But there are also things out there like the Godfather II, the Empire Strikes Back, or Aliens that make me willing to judge them on their own.

holidays rock. still hard to sleep in though. have a little more of a tan today too. 3 hours of sunlight beaming off the white snow on the ground give you a nice tan.

yes the Sun off the snow is very bright. if you are out hunting you have to wear sunglasses or goggles or you could develop snow blindess. I hate wiki but here it is:

yes the races started but my carb's fucked up on me just before the start of my races. pissed me off to no end man.

I couldn't, but we are going to clean them out and my Brother is going to race it later this week in other races.
