Back to D.M.X., it really bothers me. Ive seen too many people fall to drugs. Heres a guy that was one of the biggest names in rap for a while. His first album sold 250,000 in a week. His 2nd and 3rd album multi platinum. He came from nothing and had an opportunity. One that most people wheres hes from will never get. He should have been set for life. He should have been somewhere nice living the good life. Instead, he was 15 mins down the road from me, robbing cars in parking decks and begging a buddy of mine who worked at a restaurant for some food cuz he hadn't eaten in a while.

What makes a person unable to leave the past in the past. Im sure he had his reasons for starting up the habits. Escaping the reality that you dont like. Why blow your opportunity at a favorable reality? Whats the underlying issue? It's very easy to stand back in judgement and write someone off as bad because they are a dead beat druggie. It's not as simple as dont do drugs. Ive known many drug addicts and seen more than a fair share of them expire. None of them was ever proud of being an addict or wanted to need the drugs. Im not saying there aren't casual addicts who just do the drugs for fun. Just not usually the case in my experience. Maybe there needs to be more options for help for these people without the fear of judgement.

It always goes back to the person who is abusing drugs.
Nothing helps unless the person has the realization that this is not working.
Sometimes some shit in all the good advice and think they can do it themselves ... which usually does not go so well !
You always have your own responsibility, but if you do not want to be helped, then there are no words ...

 

I dont have 2 1/2 hours right now but that interview was a good watch.

 

Addiction never passes.

If you are an addict, then that is it.
And if you get to a point in your life when it gets hard to cope...all the help in the world might not help, because it will ALWAYS be there...the option to use.
And every time might be the one that your system can't handle.

 

Reminds me of what I heard Elton John say on the Demi Lovato docuseries, about how addiction is never gone or beaten, it's always there. And moderation doesn't work for an addict(which is what Demi is doing apparently with weed and alcohol, obviously not the harder stuff which almost killed her). And if you're a celebrity, you will always have access to every drug and substance out there, so that just makes it even harder. DMX had a fucked-up childhood, which was obvious by his music, and yet despite that and the addictions among other demons, he reached the top of the mountain. There was a point where he was THE rap/hip-hop star, he was starring in successful movies, he was the top dog. He was well on his way to being the next crossover superstar from the rap world, and then everything fell apart. Why? Why did his demons and addictions all come to surface as he reached the top? Maybe it was a feeling that he didn't deserve it, or survivors guilt of sorts, as one of his closest friends and like a little sister to him in Aaliyah died in a plane crash in September 2001 and many spoke of how it destroyed him and how he wasn't the same afterwards. Also, he was apparently bipolar, so combine that with everything else and without lots of therapy and medication, it was just a ticking time bomb except this one kept going off over and over.

Just rumors at the moment; but he apparently did contract COVID last year and had bad asthma from childhood, also may have relapsed with drugs laced with fentanyl which are running rampant lately(which is just Russian roulette quite frankly) and even if they weren't, whenever you are clean for a good amount of time, you can overdose on lesser amounts than one would think if you use again due to your body no longer being used to it(I know a few who died that way sadly). This whole thing sucks, and now I see assholes trying to 'cancel' him over his past dog fighting charges and homophobic lyrics... apparently unless you're woke and enlightened from conception you need to be canceled but that's a whole rant for another time.
